Guitar

Guitar 1 (ages 9-18)

Students in the Guitar 1 class learn the fundamentals of the guitar instrument from the very beginning by learning each string by itself, then working into using them in combination. Students will learn classical guitar technique and music reading basics for guitar. Guitar 1 students perform in a family presentation on the final day of class. Instrument rentals are available through our partner, Music and Arts.

Beginning Music Theory is required for ALL instrument ensemble students in Level 1 or Level 2. Students are allowed to test out of Beginning Music Theory. If tested and recommended for Intermediate Music Theory level or above, they may choose to take or not take Music Theory.  Theory placement tests can be taken at the open house.

 

Guitar 2 (ages 9-18) 

Students in the Guitar 2 build on the fundamentals of guitar by utilizing all strings and working them in combination. Students will learn classical guitar technique and music reading basics for guitar in a fun group environment. Students must have a fundamental understanding of the instrument and basic music reading skills. Guitar 2 students perform in a family presentation on the final day of class. Instrument rentals and purchases are available through our corporate sponsor, Music and Arts. 

Beginning Music Theory is required for ALL instrument ensemble students in Level 1 or Level 2. Students are allowed to test out of Beginning Music Theory. If tested and recommended for Intermediate Music Theory level or above, they may choose to take or not take Music Theory.  Theory placement tests can be taken at the open house.

Students will need to attend a group evaluation at the open house to be correctly placed in this class.

 

*Intermediate Guitar Ensemble (ages 9-18) 

Students in Intermediate Guitar Ensemble build on the fundamentals of guitar by continuing to utilize all strings, working them in combination, and learning chord structures. Students will learn classical guitar technique and develop their music reading for guitar in a fun group environment, and will also learns to put multiple parts together into an ensemble. Students must have a good understanding of the instrument and solid music reading skills and are selected by audition. Instrument rentals are available through our corporate sponsor, Music and Arts. Auditions are held before classes begin each semester, in August and January.  All students interested in participating in the Intermediate Guitar Ensemble need to audition for placement in the class.

 

*Advanced Guitar Ensemble (ages 9-18) 

Students in the Advanced and Intermediate Guitar Ensembles build on the fundamentals of guitar by continuing to utilize all strings, working them in combination, and learning chord structures. Students will learn classical guitar technique and develop their music reading for guitar in a fun group environment, and the Intermediate Guitar Ensemble also learns to put multiple parts together into an ensemble. Students must have a good understanding of the instrument and solid music reading skills and are selected by audition. Guitar Performing Ensemble students perform on the Winter and Spring concerts as well as select community events. Instrument rentals are available through our corporate sponsor, Music and Arts. Auditions are held before classes begin each semester, in August and January.
