Percussion Instruments

Percussion 1 (ages 9-18) 

This class is for students ages 9-18 with little or no exposure to the percussion genre. Students will explore simple rhythms and their application to various percussion instruments with emphasis on proper technique. Stick technique for both snare drum and mallets will be taught. Students will also be introduced to the supplementary percussion instruments, i.e. cymbals, bass drum, and other traditional concert band percussion instruments. There are specific instrument items required to participate in this group, instrument rentals are available through our corporate sponsor, Music and Arts. Percussion students perform for their parents each semester on the last day of class.

Beginning Music Theory is required for ALL instrument ensemble students in Level 1 or Level 2. Students are allowed to test out of Beginning Music Theory. If tested and recommended for Intermediate Music Theory level or above, they may choose to take or not take Music Theory.  Theory placement tests can be taken at the open house.

 

Percussion 2 (ages 9-18) 

This class is for students ages 9-18 with limited to more advanced exposure to the percussion genre. Students will learn and explore simple and complex rhythms and their application to various percussion instruments with emphasis on reading. Proper stick technique for both snare drum and mallets will be explored. Students will also explore technique for supplementary percussion instruments, i.e. cymbals, bass drum, and other traditional concert band percussion instruments. There are specific instrument items required to participate in this group, instrument rentals are available through our corporate sponsor, Music and Arts. Percussion 2 students will perform during the Family Showcase Concerts on the last day of class.

*Advanced Symphony Orchestra
